DeAngelo Williams Returns to Panthers with Five-Year Deal

All offseason the big question for the Panthers, other than who would be the #1 overall pick, was if the team was going to be able to talk running back DeAngelo Williams into staying with the team.

They have gotten their answer – and it’s a positive one.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that Williams and the Panthers have reached a deal on a five-year, $43 million deal that includes $21 million in guaranteed money.

Last season in playing in just 6 games Williams had 361 yards rushing and a score. The season before when he was healthy he rushed for 1117 yards and seven touchdowns.

Bringing back Williams will surly help out QB Cam Newton or whoever starts under center in 2011. It also adds a good 1-2 punch at running back with Williams and Jonathan Stewart.

The Broncos were a suitor for Williams, who now boast former Panthers coach John Fox as their new head coach entering the 2011 season.
