With Julius Peppers talking about wanting out of Carolina no matter what, the team is going to do just about whatever it takes to sign offensive tackle Jordan Gross. The Panthers have to make sure that they get Gross back, and NFL.com is reporting that talks are already on, and they are trying to get him signed by Thursday.
If they do that, they will be able to then put the franchise tag on Peppers, which is the best case for the team. Here is the report from the site below:
Carolina is making a strong push to sign prospective free-agent OT Jordan Gross by Thursday, which would enable the team to then slap its franchise tag on DE Julius Peppers. The Panthers and Gross have made significant progress on a contract, and some expect a deal to be finalized this week, league sources said Monday night. If and when a deal is done, it would pay Gross in the neighborhood of $9 million per year, the second-most lucrative contract for an offensive lineman.
