Panthers Trade with the Jets for Starting QB Sam Darnold

The Panthers have been searching for a quarterback since the start of free agency in the NFL, and Monday it looks as if they landed that player.

Jets former first-round pick Sam Darnold is now a Panther, as on Monday the Cats traded a sixth-rounder this year, a second-rounder in 2022, and another fourth-round selection in next year’s draft for the QB, who in three seasons as the Jets starter went just 13-25.

Trading for Darnold means that the one-year era of Teddy Bridgewater is basically over for Carolina, as it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Panthers look to deal him to recoup some of the picks they lost on Monday.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Panthers and Jets were talking “for weeks” and the offer eventually “creeped up and up.”

Now the question is, do the Panthers go out and get more weapons for the offense, or as stated above does the team sit back and try and trade Bridgewater to get some draft picks?

No matter, for the moment the team appears to have their signal caller for the 2021 season and potentially beyond.

Darnold was the 3rd overall pick by the Jets in 2018, coming to the franchise and right away being given the starting job.
