Report Says Panthers Could Make a Huge Push to Try and Get QB Deshaun Watson

Could the Panthers be a real darkhorse for the services of Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson this offseason?

Everyone knows that the 25-year-old is not happy in Houston and wants out, and there’s a growing list of teams that seem to want to be in the mix to acquire his services.

The Denver Broncos, Washington Football Team, Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears are just four teams that could wind up getting into a bidding war for Watson.

Houston wants a king’s ransom for Watson as one would expect, and ESPN reporter David Newton said Monday that fans might be shocked at what the Panthers would be willing to offer as he was asked about a “bold offseason prediction” around the Cats.

“The Panthers will do whatever it takes to get Deshaun Watson, and that includes giving up three first-round draft picks and (running back) Christian McCaffrey,” Newton said.

“Owner David Tepper wants to win a Super Bowl. He’s made that clear. He understands it takes a marquee quarterback to do that.

“If you look at recent history, outside of (Kansas City Chiefs quarterback) Patrick Mahomes, the quickest way to do that is to trade for a marquee quarterback and not draft one in the first round. Just ask Tampa Bay.”

It remains to be seen if indeed the Panthers will be a team with enough assets to make a deal for Watson, or if another team is going to trump them for the quarterback.
