Just two days ago running back Christian McCaffery said that he “felt great.”
Now it looks as if the 24-year-old Panthers franchise back may not even make an appearance in Sunday’s affair against the Denver Broncos.
McCaffery didn’t take part in the open portion of practice on Thursday according to Panthers.com’s Bill Voth, as he’s still suffering from a quad and shoulder injury.
Media portion of practice over. Christian McCaffrey still not out here. Neither are Rasul Douglas and Marquise Haynes. Both missed yesterday, too (Douglas: non-injury related, Haynes: illness). Dennis Daley (concussion) again walked inside dome in red jersey. https://t.co/2oua80g34J

The running back started the week ready to go against his dads former team in Denver, and now unless he can make a recovery from the quad injury he likely will again be on the sideline.
McCaffery has played in just three games this season, and the team is 0-3 with him on the field, 4-5 without him.
With four games left in the season, it would not be a surprise to see the team simply decide it’s smart to shut down the back for the rest of the season.
We shall see if they go that route.
