Report: Panthers DC Steve Wilks to Become the Next Cardinals Head Coach

says that the Cardinals are “closing in” on a deal to make Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks their next head coach.

Wilks has interviewed with the team twice since Bruce Arians announced his retirement. The Cardinals also had Falcons special teams coach Keith Armstrong in for a second interview and were expected to meet with Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo and Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores for a second time this week. Those interviews could be canceled, however, if the Cardinals have really decided to go with Wilks.

The 48-year-old Wilks has just one season of coordinating experience, but he was the assistant head coach in Carolina before that and clearly wowed the Cardinals during the interview process. Panthers LBs coach Al Holcomb is expected to join Wilks in Arizona as his defensive coordinator, and Eagles QBs coach John DeFilippo has been linked with the offensive coordinator job
