Panthers Place WR/KR Damiere Byrd on IR with Knee Injury

The Panthers have placed wide receiver/kick returner Damiere Byrd on injured reserve according to the team’s official website.

Byrd hurt his knee around halftime of the Panthers’ Week 16 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and had to be carted to the lockers room. It is a disappointing end to the season after Byrd had emerged as a promising contributor to the team’s offense in the past few weeks.

While he has caught only 10 balls for 105 yards in eight games in 2017, he caught two touchdown passes in Week 15 and scored on a kickoff return against the Bucs before the injury.

Originally an UDFA out of South Carolina, 24-year-old Byrd is an exclusive rights free agent who will likely be brought back in 2018 once healthy.
