Newton Fined $9 Grand for Taunting Sunday; Turner Hit with $24 Grand for Abusing an Official

Carolina Panthers v Atlanta Falcons

Panthers quarterback and last season MVP Cam Newton was fined $9,115 for taunting Falcons linebacker Deion Jones in Sunday’s loss to the Falcons.

Jones, who won’t be playing for the Falcons this week due to injury, avoided a fine for his helmet-to-helmet hit on the Carolina quarterback on a 2-point conversion later that knocked Newton from the game with a concussion.

Another Panthers player who was fined was right guard Trai Turner. He will have to cough up $24,309 for verbally abusing an official who didn’t flag Jones for the hit that the NFL also deemed legal.
