Panthers defensive tackle Chas Alecxih faces season-ending surgery after tests Monday revealed substantial damage to his left knee, Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer reports.
Alecxih was injured Sunday during a 2-on-2 blocking drill and carted off the field. Alecxih, who spent all of last season on the Panthers’ practice squad, did not tear his ACL but damaged another ligament, sources said.
The Panthers are expected to sign a player Tuesday to replace Alecxih, the first player to sustain a serious injury in the first two weeks of training camp.
Team officials worked out four defensive linemen Monday – including former Georgia players Ray Drew and James DeLoach – but are not expected to sign anyone from that group.
