Charles Johnson on returning back to the Panthers

Charles Johnson return

“They can’t call me big money anymore.” “Im making pea squad money.”
“My heart wouldn’t let me leave.”

CJ put in the work at Carolina and now that he has had the opportunity to return, turning down offers from both NY Giants and Tampa Bay, he fills like it is up to him to maximize his play and effort and show that it was a great move both for him and Carolina to stick around.

CJ was signed to a one-year contract.

He isn’t necessarily looking to prove himself per-say but doesn’t want to finish like he did before. There is room to improve and show the real Charles Johnson.

CJ last year himself says that he “had a slow start and got hurt.”

It left a “bad taste in my mouth.”

He was given more admiration, respect, and praise from his peers for his loyalty to sticking with Carolina and following his heart rather than negative comments bashing him for not following the money.

He compliments the Panthers locker room as a “brotherhood” that makes you want to come to work.

The atmosphere in the Panthers locker room with the clowning around and the lively atmosphere keeps players energized wanting to be a part of something bigger than themselves.

“Even the rookies” although it may take them a while to get on the same page, “act like it” and catch on to the tone that is set around the locker room.

The leaders providing leadership “know how to make it all gel.”

CJ is a captain and he knows how to make it work. Which is a plus to a defensive line looking to continue on the success that they had attained last year. But a current theme that is re-emphasized is that it is only something you build off from the previous year. This year is a new slate. And players understand that. So does Johnson.

“We’ve got some good guys.”

“We all have fun making plays and scoring on defense.” “It’s just a good feeling.”

“Im going to go about this season taking it day by day and stay healthy and maximize my opportunity this year.”

CJ’s hungry.

And he knows that its not all on him. “We’ve got stars” on the defense.

“We’ve got big time players.” “They all can make plays” and “it’s a good thing.”

“The sky’s the limit.”
