Panthers Focusing On Cards

The Panthers have had a long week of practice but still feel fresh after the bye week. During the Bye, some of the players took the opportunity to review the past three games and do some self-scouting; reviewing their own past performances and make note of some things that needed to be adjusted and corrected.

Ron Rivera was displeased with Monday’s practice saying that it did not meet his expectations. However, following Monday’s practice, the following practices have been “energetic”.

Rivera’s thoughts about AZ Cards—
Rivera: “I think it starts with their QB,” said Rivera. Rivera: (Carson Palmer) “is a solid veteran who sees the field very, very well.” “He’s scary when he’s red-hot because he has the ability to get the ball vertical.” “When he has time and sees what he wants to do, he can make good decisions.”
Palmer has a lot of tools; a lot of weapons. It starts with WR L. Fitzgerald. The Cardinals “Running game is solid” with RB R. Mendenhall. “Their offensive line is a big, physical, stout group.” “I like their TE’s as well.” One of their TE’s, Jeff King, is a former Panther.

Rivera: “This is a good challenge for us because they have skilled players that have some athleticism and if they put Patrick Peterson in there, there’s no telling what’s going to happen.”

Rivera: “This is a big opportunity for us… to get the roll going that we’re hoping for.”

Cam NewtonCam’s thoughts about AZ Cards—
“They’ve got a very stout defensive line.” “They’re not just the traditional 3-4 (defense).” Cardinals have a good secondary (i.e. the honey badger and Patrick Peterson).
“We’re playing in a hostile environment and a great team…”

The Panthers are up for the challenge–
The Panthers have regained depth going into the 13-game stretch. The secondary has an added dimension as does the offensive line–The two main areas of concern. Both areas improved against the Giants and are looking to continue their progress and continue to get better.
