Since being in the league since 2003 with his majority of time playing for the Eagles, 8 years, 2 years for the Rams, Mikell has improved his numbers. In 2012, Mikell put up a total of 101 tackles, 3 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles.
Mikell was released by the Rams in March but the Panthers had their eyes set on him since July. With the Rams not re-signing Mikell, interest began to grow, with Mikell finally signing on to the Panthers for a one-year deal. Mikell will likely compete for the starting strong safety position against Mike Mitchell and will more than likely land the starting role. Mikell, who is familiar with McDemott’s defense, will be a great fit for the upcoming season and add strength to the DB’s.
Mikell is versatile, having the ability to play free or strong safety. He plays hard, is physical, and has good cover ability. Mikell is proven against many of the WR’s in the league. There are not a lot of strong safeties that have that ability.
