Bucs CB Barber Says Toughest Player He Ever Faced With WR Smith

Steve Smith

When Tampa Bay and Carolina take the field in 2013, one player that will be missed by the Cats is that of now retired Bucs CB Ronde Barber.

The longtime Bucs corner called it a career last week, ending what was a great 17-year legacy.

He gave kudos to one Panther, that being wide out Steve Smith – who he said was the toughest player he ever had to go up against in his career.

“I played a lot of great players. The receiver position today … so hard to match up now,” Barber said to Peter King of SI.

“Megatron [Calvin Johnson] was impossible to cover. Randy Moss in his prime: nothing you can do. But to me, Steve Smith was the toughest guy I faced. When I played him, he was just like me. He chose to outwork everyone else out there every day. That was me.”

When Smith retires, it will be interesting to see if he thinks the same about Barber.
