Panthers Look to Get on Track vs Cutler and the Bears

By Michael Brennan

The Chicago Bears (5-1) have been unbeatable at home. The Carolina Panthers (1-5) do not have a win on the road this year. The Panthers travel to Soldier Field on Sunday to face the prolific Chicago Bears defense.

The Bears are the best team in the NFC North and should boast their 1st ranked run defense over the Panthers’ 13th best running game in the NFL. Jay Cutler has struggled at times during the season and has continued to be plagued by a poor offensive line, something that has carried over from last season.

However, Cutler has developed a tremendous rhythm with wide receiver Brandon Marshall who was brought to Chicago during the offseason from Miami. Cutler and Marshall have a combined four touchdowns and 577 yards together in just six games. Together, they should continue to be a nightmare for the Carolina secondary that allows, on average, more than 240 passing yards per game.

The Panthers will keep rookie sensation Luke Kuechly at middle linebacker for what will more than likely be the remainder of the season because of Jon Beason’s consistent injuries. Jonathon Stewart has been named the starter for the second game in a row with the hopes of propelling the Carolina offense past its current woes. The offense has been static and unable to capitalize at latter moments in the game. Turnovers continue to be a point of emphasis for both Cam Newton and the rest of the backfield. Steve Smith has gone the entire length of the 2012 season without a touchdown while Newton has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns.

The matchups between Carolina and Chicago have never been disappointing. Unfortunately for Carolina, they will need to play flawlessly to keep up with the Bears. It will be interesting to see how the drama that is Cam Newton’s performance does against the fearsome Bears defense.
