Anderson Still Slightly Ahead of Clausen for #2 QB Spot

According to Steve Reed of the Associated Press, quarterback Derek Anderson has had a solid camp thus far and remains ahead of Jimmy Clausen for the No.2 quarterback job in Carolina behind Cam Newton.

As Clausen is much younger than Anderson and thus would be the team’s preferred backup quarterback, the fact that he is still behind Anderson is a troubling sign for Clausen’s future.

Despite what Panthers head coach Ron Rivera may say publicly, Clausen may never get a sniff at another starting quarterback job in the NFL.

I think Clausen should get a chance to be a starting QB in the NFL. Why not? The Clausen haters need to realize that they are basing all of their criticism on Clausen’s ROOKIE year. Not every NFL rookie QB is gonna come into the league like a Super Hero, like Newton did last year. I can’t see Clausen getting any major opportunities anytime soon. But I do think he should get a shot because he never really got a shot. He should use the next few years to be the best QB he can be, light it up every preseason, then wait. It’ll come
