Panthers Officially Add QB Derek Anderson with a One-Year Deal

Last season Derek Anderson was a bust with the Arizona Cardinals. A year later, he’s hoping that a reunion with the OC that led him to a Pro Bowl a few years back will signal a better outcome with his new team – the Panthers.

The Panthers officially added Anderson with a one-year contract. He will come in and compete with youngsters Cam Newton and Jimmy Clausen. Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

The 28-year-old comes to Carolina to reunite with offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski, who coached him in Cleveland when he made the Pro Bowl back in the 2007 season.

That season he threw for 3,787 yards and 29 touchdowns and went to the Pro Bowl. “He’s a guy that has some experience and background in the system and knows the terminology,” Chudzinski said. “He’s familiar enough with things to help the younger guys and be able to step right in.”

Chudzinski said it’s too soon to know what Anderson’s role will be with his new team. “We’ll see how things go and things develop,” Chudzinski said. “I think right now it’s so early it’s hard to get a true assessment of where we’re at. We’ve only been at it a few days.”
