Stewart Says He Wants Williams to Stay with the Panthers

Count Jonathan Stewart as a guy who wants to keep DeAngelo Williams as a member of the Panthers when the 2011 season begins.

Jonathan Stewart is hopeful he will still have DeAngelo Williams with him in the Panthers’ backfield when the season kicks off. “Once they get this deal done I’m pretty sure the organization would like to keep the duo going,” Stewart said. “I mean, if it’s not broke, why fix it?” Stewart and Williams became the first tailback tandem to rush for 1,100 yards each in the same season in 2009. Williams, 28, who missed the second half of last season with a foot injury, is considered the best tailback on the free agent market. Stewart talks to Williams often, but says the two do not discuss football. But Stewart was clear when asked if he wanted to keep the duo intact: “Oh yeah.”
