DeAngelo Williams Says Panthers Need Better QB Play

DeAngelo Williams doesn’t sound convinced that the Carolina Panthers have the right quarterback on their roster. The free agent running back told a Miami radio station that he needs to know the Panthers’ quarterback situation is vastly improved if he is to stay with the team.

“It’s all going to boil down to quarterbacks,” Williams told WQAM-AM, via “In this league, the running game is all predicated on if you have a quarterback or not. If you don’t have a quarterback, teams stack the box and they force you to do what you do best.”

Jimmy Clausen, the team’s second-round pick last year, is currently the top QB in Carolina. But the team holds the first overall pick in the draft, and could select either Cam Newton or Blaine Gabbert. Williams will be a free agent when the NFL resumes operations after the lockout, limited to six games by injury last year, he rushed for 2,635 yards the previous two seasons.
