Panthers can pull the upset, but it won’t be easy

The Panthers will look to shock the NFL and get their first win of the 2010 season Sunday when they travel to play the world champion Saints in the SuperDome. The football spread on the game is a whopping 14 points, which means many in Vegas don’t feel the Panthers have a chance.

But don’t overlook the cats.

There are reasons to feel the Panthers will be in this game, and it starts with the play up front of the Panthers O-line vs the Saints front four.

The Saints are allowing a whopping 140 yards per game on the ground, which is worst in the NFL. The Panthers do have a great 1-2 punch at running back, and that should give Panthers fans some hope they can do some things on offense.

Then there is the Jimmy Clausen factor. Yes, he was not very good last week, but another week with the first string offense and Clausen should be a lot more comfortable with his teammates. He’s playing the champs, but as stated above it’s a D right now that can be had.

So don’t count the Panthers out so fast yet. They have a shot to score the upset, but will have to play within themselves for 60 minutes to do it.
