Could This Be the Last Training Camp at Wofford College for the Panthers?

There’s some chatter that this might be the last season for the Panthers at Wofford College, where they continue to have their training camp. Today’s The Herald paper in Rock Hill, S.C., throws out the question if there is a split coming. Here’s a portion of the article:

For as long as the contract has been in place, both sides have benefited greatly. One has gotten rich and one has reaped a handsome return on the investment. The deal has gone on for so long and worked so well, no one can imagine it any other way. And at the end of this year, it could all be over.

But unlike the ongoing Julius Peppers drama that has dragged down the Carolina Panthers offseason, no one seems really worried about the fact the team is entering the final season of its training camp contract with Wofford College.

The Panthers signed a 15-year pact with owner Jerry Richardson’s alma mater at the franchise’s inception, and that deal expires after this camp. And with teams leaguewide tightening belts, sparking a trend of “camping” at their regular-season practice facilities, there’s well-founded concern in Spartanburg.
