Four teams. That’s all that Panthers star defensive end Julius Peppers has agreed to be traded to, this making a deal for the Panthers to try and get him moved to another team all that much harder. The Panthers were looking at trying to get a deal with left tackle Jordan Gross done, this way they could franchise Peppers and then try and trade him to another team.
They have to make that decision on who to franchise, if any, by Thursday. The only team that seemed to leak that Peppers would agree to be traded to was the Cowboys. The other three teams that he said he’d go to were up in the air as of Wednesday night.
Word is the Panthers would want a first-round draft pick and other compensation for Peppers, who is their all-time sacks leader. As far as Dallas goes, they don’t even have a first-round pick this year. The Panthers would also likely prefer Peppers not play for a fellow NFC team.
Peppers, who had a career-high 14 1/2 sacks last season, turned down a contract offer from Carolina last year that would have made him one of the highest-paid defensive players in the NFL. He has said from right after the end of the season that he wanted to move on from playing in Carolina.
