Charles Spencer Waived

Offensive tackle Charles Spencer has been waived by the Panthers. The former Pitt Panther was drafted by Houston in 2006, and surprised many by his tremendous play in preseason games at left tackle; however he broke his leg badly in only the second game of that season. After an arduous twenty-two month rehabilitation, the Texans still had high hopes for Spencer, but he eventually was released this past July. He was attempting a comeback with Carolina.

Coach Fox claims the tackle’s release was due to “conditioning and weight”, and not his previous injury, though he had missed several practices purportedly from a sore knee (which was a part of his 2006 leg injury.)

Offensive lineman Reuben Riley has been re-signed to the Panthers; he had been released to make room for Spencer.
