Smith and Lucas Trade Blows at Camp

Smith talks with Jason Carter

Steve Smith and Ken Lucas were sent back to Charlotte today; Smith for disciplinary reasons, and Lucas to seek further medical attention. The star receiver Smith apparently let the hot sun of Spartanburg get to his head this morning, and purportedly during an argument, walloped an unsuspecting Ken Lucas in the face. The starting cornerback had a nasty gash under his left eye, and was seen icing it for quite some time.

Steve Reed of Carolina Growl also reported that Lucas received care from trainer Ryan Vermillion after the melee, and an apologetic Smith approached Lucas, making sure he was okay. The two were seen sharing a hug, and seemed to be moving forward after the altercation. After seeking counsel from longtime friend and kicker, John Kasay, the wide receiver was escorted off the field by general manager Marty Hurney, with a towel humbly draped over his head.
