Smith Wants to Be the Best

Panthers star Steve Smith says his goal is to be the best receiver in NFL history. Smith told reporters at the team’s training camp in Spartanburg that he keeps a laminated piece of paper with the top receiving totals in NFL history Former San Francisco 49er Jerry Rice holds the league record with more than 15-hundred catches and nearly 23-thousand yards for his career. Smith has a long way to go approach those marks.
He has 431 receptions for more than 59-hundred yards in his first seven NFL seasons. Smith had his best season in 2005, when he had 105 catches, 1,563 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has averaged 85 catches and eight touchdowns the last two seasons, even though the Panthers have struggled to find a dependable number-two receiver.
