Deals Done with Both First-Round Picks Stewart and Otah

Jonathan Stewart (28) talks with DeAngelo Williams

The Panthers are now officially ready to roll, as they have signed both their first-round draft picks, coming to terms with running back Jonathan Stewart and offensive tackle Jeff Otah.  The deal for Stewart is for five years, and inlcudes $10.8 mil in guaranteed money.  The whole deal could be worth up to $20 when it’s all said and done.  Both Stewart and Otah were on the field today for the teams practices.  “It was incredibly important for Jonathan and everyone involved to have him there for camp in time,” Stewart’s agent, Ben Dogra, said. “It’s an important year for him, as well as the team, being his rookie year. We’re all glad we were able to complete the deal.”

To make room on the 80-man roster, the Panthers released running back Alex Haynes and linebacker Brandon Jamison.  “There are no distractions, team-wise now,” general manager Marty Hurney said. “Everybody is signed and it’s a good way to start training camp.”
