Panthers Release Hartwig; Jarrett Charged with DWI

The Panthers released starting center Justin Hartwig Tuesday. Hartwig spent the last two seasons with the Panthers and started 15 games last year. He missed much of the 2006 campaign with injuries. Hartwig is the second starter on the offensive line to be let go in the offseason. The Panthers released guard Mike Wahle last month. Wahle has since signed with Seattle.
With the departure of Hartwig, second-year player Ryan Kalil is expected to start at center for the Panthers next season. Meanwhile, Panthers wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett was arrested and charged with driving while impaired early Tuesday morning. Jarrett was Carolina’s second-round draft choice last season and six caught six passes for 73 yards in his rookie year.
