Morgan and Carr Appear to Be on Their Way Out of Carolina

The Charlotte Observer is reporting that couple of Panthers may not be around too much longer as the team looks to get back to their winning ways in 2008. The paper says that linebacker Dan Morgan and quarterback David Carr could be victims of the teams salary cap and could be released. The two combine to make up about $5 million, meaning more cash for the Panthers to use on their existing players for new deals, or for them to go out and get players on the free agent market.Carr had his shot this past season to make a fresh start with the Panthers after his miserable time in Houston, and was a total flop. He played in six games after Jake Delhomme went down, and had a QB rating of just 58.3, throwing for three touchdowns and five picks to go along with 635 yards. He also was back to his old ways of getting sacked, as he went down 13 times for negative 74 yards. With Delhomme back under center, the team could give the backup job to Matt Moore, thus pushing Carr out the door.

Morgan, a former number one pick of the Panthers, has been off the field more than on it for the past two seasons, playing in just four games over the past two years. In 2006 he suffered a concussion in the opener and missed the last 15 games of the season, and in 07 played in just three games and then landed on IR with a partially torn Achillies. He has never played in more than 13 games in a season. It looks as if cutting these two will be a rather easy move as Carolina looks to build for the future.
