Delhomme’s Recovery Going Well

The recovery of Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme from season-ending elbow surgery is going according to plan and he’s expected to return for training camp prior to the 2008 season.  Delhomme sustained the injury in a Week Three game at Atlanta and had Tommy John surgery in mid-October.  Delhomme says he has full range of motion in the joint and can perform normal tasks, but his rehabilitation schedule doesn’t call for any throwing until the latter part of February.  Even then, Delhomme expects to begin throwing something lighter than an NFL football.

Delhomme is currently receiving treatment seven days a week and will be able to begin lifting light weights this week.  Meanwhile, Vinny Testaverde is set to start at quarterback this week against San Francisco.  Head coach John Fox wouldn’t say whether David Carr or rookie Matt Moore would serve as the backup.  Cornerback Chris Gamble returned to practice today after missing Sunday’s loss to New Orleans following a recent surgery on his dislocated thumb.
