Fox: Panthers Have Hope

The Panthers are mired in a three-game losing streak, but coach John Fox says the team still has the opportunity to turn things around.  The Panthers have slipped to 4-and-5 but are just one game behind first-place Tampa Bay in the NFC South.  The Panthers have dropped six straight homes dating back to last season, but Fox points out that Jake Delhomme was the starting quarterback in just one of those games.  Chris Weinke, David Carr and Vinny Testaverde also started games during that stretch.  Fox says he expects Carr to practice this week.  He missed Sunday’s loss to Atlanta while recovering from a concussion.

Fox also says that Testaverde, who has a lingering Achilles problem, was not on the injury report.  But the Panthers boss would not say who will start at quarterback when the Panthers travel to Green Bay next Sunday.  Defensive tackle Damione Lewis and safety Deke Cooper suffered shoulder injuries Sunday, while running back DeShaun Foster suffered a toe injury.  Fox declined to update the status of the injured players.
