Smith Stymied as Panthers Struggle
Posted by Matt Loede on October 30th, 2007 filed in OpinionsPanthers star wide receiver Steve Smith was largely a forgotten man during Sunday’s 31-7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Smith had only two receptions for 18 yards against the Colts, with both catches coming in the first quarter. He had a season-high 10 catches in the Panthers last game against Arizona two weeks ago. This season has been an all-or-nothing affair for the Pro Bowl selection. Smith has three games with at least 118 receiving yards, but he also has four games with fewer than 50 yards. Three of his six touchdowns also came in Carolina’s week-two loss to Houston. Smith has been hindered by the Panthers’ instability at quarterback and their lack of a dependable number-two receiver. The Panthers travel to Tennessee next Sunday.
