John Kasay, center, is surrounded by his teammates after his field goal as time expired

John Kasay made a 52-yard field goal as time expired, giving the Carolina Panthers a 16-13 win over the New Orleans Saints Sunday at the Louisiana Superdome. The Panthers offense was outgained by nearly 100 yards, but the defense held the Saints to a single touchdown. Quarterback David Carr completed only 10 passes for 119 yards, but connected with Steve Smith on a crucial 17 yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 13.  Prior to Smith’s touchdown, defensive end Julius Peppers blocked an Olindo Mare [[oh-LIN-doe MAH -ray]] field goal that would have given the Saints a 10-point fourth quarter lead.  The Panthers are now 3-and-2 and head west for a matchup with the Arizona Cardinals next Sunday.
