Peppers Catches Criticism

When Panthers safety Mike Minter retired in training camp, owner Jerry Richardson specifically called on defensive end Julius Peppers to become more of a team leader. But the Pro Bowl selection has been nearly invisible in the Panthers first four games of the season. Peppers has only nine tackles and zero sacks so far. The former UNC star was slowed by an illness in camp, but coach John Fox says he has been healthy during the regular season. Fox also says that Peppers deserves no more blame than any other member of the Panthers, saying the team has had two good weeks and two bad weeks. The Panthers return to practice today as they get ready for Sunday’s trip to winless New Orleans.
