Ex-NC State Standout Makes Impact for Texans

Former NC State standout Mario Williams is making an impact for the Houston Texans. Williams, the number-one one overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, went through the typical growing pains as an NFL rookie. The defensive end had only four-and-a-half sacks and also felt a backlash from fans after the Texans bypassed Reggie Bush and Vince Young to draft him. But Williams opened 2007 with a flourish, recording two sacks and returning a fumble for a touchdown in Houston’s 20-3 win over Kansas City last Sunday. Coach Gary Kubiak says Williams’ performance was even more impressive after viewing the film on Monday. Williams and the Texans visit the Carolina Panthers Sunday.
