QB Bell Gets Shot with Panthers

Quarterback Dalton Bell hopes to make the most of his first and likely only shot with the Panthers Thursday. Bell, an undrafted free agent from West Texas A&M, figures to see most of the action when the Panthers host Pittsburgh in their preseason finale. Second-year QB Brett Basanez was slated to get most of the snaps against the Steelers, but he suffered a season-ending wrist injury last Friday against the Patriots. So with neither Jake Delhomme nor David Carr expected to play much, that opens the door for Bell. With Basanez out for the year, it could at least open the chance for Bell to make the Panthers roster. Last season the Panthers carried only two quarterbacks on their roster for much of the regular season.
