Panthers back to practice

The Panthers return to training camp in Spartanburg today, fresh off their 24-21 win over the New York Giants in Saturday night’s preseason opener.  The Panthers’ first-team offense looked sharp, marching down the field on a 13-play, 81-yard touchdown drive in their first series.  That drive culminated with five-yard touchdown toss from Jake Delhomme to Steve Smith.  Backup quarterbacks David Carr and Brett Basanez also led the Panthers on touchdown drives.  The Panthers, who have a new system under new offensive coordinator Jeff Davidson, also rushed for 154 yards.  The Giants first-team offense also produced a touchdown against Carolina’s starting defense.  The Panthers will practice at 9:10 and 6:40 today.
